What is sustainable roofing?
- Addresses the issue of energy efficiency
- Has low environmental impact & embodied energy
- Durable with less maintenance
- Reduced waste generation throughout life cycle from:
- Design
- Construction
- Reuse
- Final disposal
SPF roofing systems are highest in energy efficiency, virtually leak free, easily maintained, usually require no tear off or disposal, and can be renewed inexpensively. In a survey of 140 SPF roofs, the National Roofing Foundation
found that only 2 percent of owners suffered a leaking problem. The roofs averaged 12 years old, with the oldest being 27 years.
As landfill fees are projected to skyrocket, building owners need to factor in removal and disposal costs when considering roof systems that have a definitive life expectancy.
