8840 Ceramic Elastomeric Roof Coating
CCRC Title 24 Approved & Class A-1 Fire Rated
Description: This Ceramic Elastomeric Roof Coating is an advanced elastomeric, acrylic, Class A fire rated coating that will provide a seamless, durable and flexible (up to 350% elongation) membrane that will resist peeling or becoming brittle after proper surface preparation and application. The 8840 has been approved as a Cool Roof product and will reflect infrared rays and heat, reducing heat transfer temperatures and thus reducing air conditioning costs by lowering roof surface temperatures, and increase the life of the roof. When used with Ceram-X underseal and polyester seam tape, it will protect your roof and help prevent roof leaks, and deal with ponding water.
Surface Preparation: The roof surface must be clean and free of all loose or oxidized materials. Use a stiff bristle broom, power blower or carefully power wash the surface. Note: Do not power wash if roof has any leaks. This could cause more damage. Replace any damaged or missing shingles. Secure all lifting, roofing material flush to surface before application.
Uses: Composition Roofs, Rolled Roofing, Asphalt Shingles, Foam Roofs, Metal Roofs and Mobile Homes
Advantages: Class A-1 fire rated, and Cool Roof Approved it protects your roof from U.V. radiation, reflects infrared rays, lowers roof temperatures (decreasing the roof temperature will slow roof aging and reduce utility bills), can be combined with CX-8875 underseal and seam tape to provide a thick rubber-like blanket of protection to resist ponding water. It utilizes 100 % arcylic elastomeric resin for durability and long life.
Coverage: The 8840 requires a minimum dry film thickness of 7 dry mils. This mil thickness can be achieved by applying 2 coats at 200 sq.ft./gal. each. If the 8840 is used in a ponding water or leaky roof situration it should be applied at 14 dry mills or 2 coats at 100 sq.ft./gal. each.
Thinning: We do not recommend thinning.
Drying Time: Initial cure is 8 hours. Recoat 24 hours. Cool or humid weather conditions will slow the drying time.
Clean-Up: Clean tools and hands with warm, soapy water and rinse thoroughly.
Mildew: DO NOT PAINT OVER MILDEW. Mildew is a fungus, brown, black, grey or even white in color, and will rapidly grow through any coating applied over it. A solution of 50% household bleach and 50% water will kill the mildew. See precautions on bleach label for handling before using. Once our coating is applied, it has a mildew inhibitor that should reduce or eliminate mildew build-up.
Metal: Metal must be free of rust and grease. Clean and etch all new metal. Prime all rusted metal with primer and seam tape all seams.
Wood: Prime all bare wood.
Urethane Foam: Before applying top coat, apply multiple coats of 8875 underseal resulting in a minimum coverage of 3 gallons per 100 sq.ft. Do not apply over wet or deteriorated foam.
Application: Important: If you have an older roof in poor condition, lost roofing or shingles, blisters, tares and severe splits, you may need a new roof. A neglected roof may not offer the firm sub-surface necessary to provide proper adhesion for a membrane type coating. If in doubt, consult a qualified roofer. Roof surface must have proper drainage installation and slope to provide positive drainage.
Apply by brush, squeegee, 3/4" roller or by airless spray equipment. Apply right out of the can.
Cool Roof Application
1. Clean and patch roof surface: The roof surface must be clean and free of all loose or oxidized material. Use stiff bristle broom, power blower or carefully power wash the surface. Note: Do not power wash if roof has any water leaks. Patch with seam tape around all vents, pipes, chimneys or skylights etc. and over flashing , holes, cracks, splits, seams, caps and valleys. Roll polyester seam tape into the seams, caps and valleys. Roll polyester seam tape into the wet underseal. (Do not use fiberglass or asphalt impregnated seam tape). While still wet, apply another coat of underseal over seam tape completely embedding the tape in the coating. Allow to dry.
3. Top Coat: Apply roof coating with a 3/4" nap paint roller. Spread downward onto the roof. Fill all the cracks and crevices. Then roll upward, forcing 8840 into and under the shingles. Important: Form one seamless layer over the total area being covered. Seal all shingle tab edges completely. Some low sloped roofs may require a complete brushing application around all tab edges first. Do not walk on it while it is wet.
Ponding Water or Leaky Roof Application:
1. Clean and patch roof surface: The roof surface must be clean and free of all loose or oxidized material. Use stiff bristle broom, power blower or carefully power wash the surface. Note: Do not power wash if roof has any water leaks. Roof surface should be undersealed prior to application of top coat.
2. Underseal: Apply underseal over entire surface at the minimum rate of 1 gallon per 100 sq.ft. Warranty specifications require a minimum rate of 2 gallons per 100 sq.ft. For older roofs and/or roofs with cracking, alligatoring, failing systems and minor leaks, use polyester roofing fabric with the underseal to reinforce the roof coating system.
Weather Guidelines: Do not apply under foggy weather conditions. Do not apply when rain is forecast within 24 hours. Do not apply when temperatures are expected to drop below 50 degrees F. within 24 hours. Apply on warm, clear, sunny days. For ponded water conditions use #8875 underseal with seam tape.
Warranty: Limited warranty is available, see dealer.
